July 2021

Dear Neighbours,

We hope everyone is keeping well and safe!

Project Update: Events

Jazz On The Green Date Change!

We shall now be holding Jazz On The Green on Saturday, 31st July 12-6pm.

We’ve got some amazing local musicians booked including:

We’re also very excited that a number of food businesses and social enterprises that have opened over the last couple of years will have stalls. They include Laza, Curry Cartel and Ida Kitchen (currently based at the Mayville Community Centre).

Project Update: Environment

The water fountain that we have been working on delivering to Newington Green (with the help of LBI) for the past few years is finally being installed this week. The installation will take a week and there will be works in the autumn to make good the grass that needs to be dug up to connect the fountain.

The fence protecting the newly seeded grass around the Wollstonecraft memorial will be removed in time for Jazz on the Green.

Garden on the Green

We are working with The Garden Classroom on an exciting new project, 'Garden on the Green'.
The garden will run from behind the Garden Classroom hut, curving round to the decking at Lizzy's on The Green. Plans are being drawn up to landscape a community space, with a seating area, new trees and additional planting to encourage biodiversity. Fundraising and publicity for the project are underway and we will need your help publicising the crowdfunding page.

If you would like to join the environment group, please contact us at environment@newingtongreen.org

Project Update: Community support:

We are continuing to facilitate support between community members. Examples of how people can help include running errands, speaking to a neighbour on the phone or giving career advice to young people. To facilitate this, we continue to pair up volunteers with those who need assistance, either on a one-off or ongoing basis. Please help us spread the message and let people know they can contact us for support.

If you or anyone you know needs support, you can contact us here:

Other community news:

If you are not yet fully vaccinated and are over 18 you may want to take advantage of the numerous walk-in vaccination clinics in Hackney.

NGAG member Richard Rieser was awarded an OBE in the Birthday Honours. Congrats Richard!
