April 2022

Dear Neighbours,

We hope you are well and enjoying the sunshine when it makes an appearance.

Project Update: Food justice

We have appointed a part-time coordinator to expand our work around food justice. As far as we are aware this is the first paid NGAG position and we are very excited.

Please email food@newingtongreen.org if you would like to meet our new coordinator or have any ideas you think she should pursue.

In the meantime, a reminder that we continue to partner with St Jude and St Paul’s Church for a weekly food hub every Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm. There is both shopping to take away and hot food to enjoy on site. If you know of anyone who might need be interested please let them know. It is based at a church but it is open to everyone, regardless of background or beliefs.

Feel free to drop any food donations you may have to the church between 12.30pm and 3pm on Tuesdays. Tuna, tinned meats and children’s cereal are always in high demand.

Project Update: Events

Get your glad rags on and grab your picnic blanket... JAZZ & MORE ON THE GREEN is back! Saturday 16th July 2022 12-6pm.

Expect a cracking diverse line up in collaboration with Local & Live in Hackney, as well as local food, drink and retail stalls and a new area for children's activities & celebrating the history of dissent in Newington Green.

Project Update: Refugee support

We have submitted our application to host an Afghan family in the area to Hackney Council and should be receiving our approval in principle very soon. At that point we will have to raise the rest of the money. If you haven't donated and are able to do so please go here.

Other news

Don't forget that the local elections are a week away. You don't need your polling card to vote and you can find your polling station here.

We will let you know the date for our AGM in the next newsletter. It will be in June and in person!

Our next newsletter will contain details of the extension to Newington Green playground many of you helped to make happen by submitting your views. A special thanks to local resident Andrea who has been instrumental in improving the design.

In solidarity,

Team NGAG
